Meat in Portugal can be very good but it tends to be butchered differently from the way we expect in England. It is however almost always tasty and responds well to casseroling and barbecuing especially if it has first been marinated. Chicken, quail, duck etc are widely available and very cheap. The more unusual meats kid, ostrich and sucking pig are sometimes available and worth trying.
