Casa Martin

Garden

Gardening in the Algarve is exciting in that one can grow a huge range of tender plants as we never get frost. The downside is that the summers are very dry and hot and at Casa Martin we do not irrigate. Another problem is that we are on a thick layer of chalk which has very little, very poor topsoil over only to a depth of 30cm in places.

Despite the problems we are constantly expanding and improving our garden and hope that our guests appreciate our efforts.

One of our recent projects has been the construction of a new bed outside of the kitchen windows which was hard work in terms of levelling the land but the result is now looking lovely. Before and after photos are here.

Our Garden Gallery Page has lots of small photos of some of our plants all of which can be seen in full size by clicking on the small pictures.

Stop Press: As seen in this photo on 6 January 2004 a huge new project was completed to transform the drive area. More details to follow.
