Sweet and Sour Figs

 

This is ideal when the figs are falling off the trees and there is a limit to how many you can eat as they are. It is a delightful and different accompaniment for cold meats, sausages and cheeses.

450g fresh Figs
250ml Red Wine Vinegar
100g Sugar
3 Cloves
Stick of Cinnamon
Half a Lemon
Half an Orange

Bring everything but the figs to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Add the figs and simmer gently for another 15 minutes. Allow to cool overnight. This keeps well covered in the fridge.
