Potteries
Drive
along the old main road the N125 and you will come accross literally dozens
of shops selling traditional pottery and decorated tiles. Many of these
are now mass produced but some are still hand painted and traditionally
fired such as tne Porches Pottery. Some of the larger shops have other
things for sale including embroidered items, cork products, basketware
etc with wine tastings etc
Our favorite pottery however is in Loulé. Os Arcos is just off the main pedestrianised Rua 5 Outobro. All of the pots and tiles are hand painted on the premises by a husband and wife. The shop is only small but they have some lovely pieces. Most of the decorative plates and tile panels in Casa Martin were bought here.
There is also a new workshop/showroom opened on the road between Loulé and Bouliqieme which looks promising but as yet I haven't visited. This road the N270 also has several outlets selling good value basketware and wicker items.
